The Association of Finnish Technical Traders: An industry-focused website for young people and guidance counselors to increase the field’s visibility

teknisenkaupanmaailma.fi

Background

The technical trade sector offers a pathway to demanding and well-paid roles for those who want to combine technical expertise, sales, and business understanding. There is strong demand in the sector especially for professionals with a vocational qualification and engineers from universities of applied sciences, but the field also offers equally interesting positions for business administration graduates, Master of Science (Economics and Business Administration) graduates, and Master of Science (Technology) graduates.

Our long-term client, The Association of Finnish Technical Traders, wanted to reach young people in grades 8–9 and inform them about the diverse opportunities within the technical trade sector. The goal was to increase awareness of the industry, lower the threshold for exploring the field, and make concrete the kinds of job roles available.

The need emerged strongly from study counselors, who were looking for a concrete and easy-to-use tool for presenting different industries. The aim was to engage young people on their own terms – visually, interactively, and in an appealing way.

Solution: an industry website enhanced with interactive elements

The site concept and overall content were designed with the young target audience and the needs of study counselors in mind. The technical implementation was carried out by our partner digital agency J&Co.

One of the key elements of the site is an interactive image that presents the workdays of young professionals in technical trade in a “my day” style format. Users can explore a variety of professional roles, ranging from key account manager and sales support to marketing manager, technical specialist, and CEO.

Young people’s interest is further sparked by a career choice test, which helps them identify job roles within technical trade that best suit them.

How did we succeed?

Teknisen kaupan maailma (“The World of Technical Trade”) serves as a practical tool for study counselors while also functioning as an inspiring campaign site for young people. It makes technical trade an easy-to-understand, interesting, and relevant field for young people who are considering their future direction.

The site supports The Association of Finnish Technical Traders long-term goal of increasing the attractiveness of the sector and providing study counselors with a concrete tool for presenting different industries in schools.

The site’s content is actively developed based on feedback and suggestions from study counselors.
